Social media – A loaded gun in monkey’s hand.

Have you ever shared or commented on any of the posts which defames someone in any way? 95% chances are you might have.

Here’s an example of a post.

Person 1: There is this group of guys who are misbehaving, passing comments, bad gesture, having no manners…. Blah blah blah.

Person 2: They should be thrown out. Show them their way.

Person 3: They are characterless.

Person 4: Good you shared this. Kick their ass. Spread the word and punish them.

Person 5: Blah blah blah

Person 6: Blah blah blah…

And so on.

All the valid points have been shared by the people. No one is wrong in expressing their feelings.

But before commenting, how many of us really verified the news.

Ask a question to those who posted or commented. Were you present at the event?

Person 1: No. I heard from someone.

Person 2: No. I read 1st person’s post.

Person 3: No.

And so on.

Without knowing you defame someone’s character and spoil their future. This doesn’t happen once in a while but on regular basis.
Take example of Rohtak girls, Jasleen Kaur case, etc. Knowingly or unknowingly you defame someone. And this is because easy access to social media network. You post anything and everything without knowing the truth. Take a while, think, and post. Enjoy your freedom of speech but not at a cost of somebody’s character and career.

Be responsible.

Last man standing

A year, from July 2011 to July 2012 has been the best teacher I can ever have in my life. As there is a saying in Hindi; “Aadmi thokar khaane se hi sikhta hai – A man rises only after he falls” is very much implied in my life. From personal, professional and mental disaster to someone who wants to do something of his own. And that is what I am today.

Emoticons: Emotions or Icons?

Technology have has helped the world at a large. One of which is emoticons. They are the icons that help you to describe or show your emotions while chatting or messaging which you can’t show unless you are in front of the person. This has helped people to express themselves, but the excess use of it has also raised a question in my mind.

Note* in this write up, I am going to use “but” a lot.

Google – The Gurukul

How many of you have never visited Google? I think this is the wrong question. I shouldn’t have even asked this question. Google has become the most important element of our lives. Whatever you want to know, you have only one source of information…Google.

You must be thinking that this is technology and information, why Gurukul? Because in olden days only Guru had the information which a student was passed on. And to seek that information, he had to stay in that Gurukul. This is why I have named Google – The Gurukul. Continue reading

Are you comfortable?

How many times have you saidI am not comfortable while doing a task which cannot be avoided by you? Many a times, right? But were you really not comfortable because you don’t know how to do or just wanted to avoid the task because you didn’t like to do?

Not being comfortable is the sign of your growth. I have 2 personal experiences to explain what I mean.

Example 1:

As being a Social Media Marketing (SMM) executive, I always handled Facebook pages and twitter for brands. I learnt a lot about communicating about brands, interacting with fans, etc. But after a certain period  you stop learning new things and become comfortable doing what you are currently doing. Now you know what you are doing, why you are doing, how you are doing, but don’t know till when you are going to continue this. You are comfortable with what you are doing. Nothing new to do, no extra effort. All is going well.

Now what? Are you ready to continue to do this your whole life. I was not. So I started learning about digital ads and media planning. Today was the first day of me making a real media plan. Something extremely new to me. Confused between excel sheets, keywords, CPC, etc. For a while a thought came in my mind, whether am I really suitable for this work. Never been comfortable with working on excel. It has so many functions that if you know it well, your task will be like a cake walk. An hour of work took me a whole day. Another uncomfortable part was accounting. Service tax, commission, tax rate, etc. I am still confused between debit and credit and had to do some complicated calculations. The whole day I was uncomfortable working on the project. But at the end, I am satisfied and more confident about doing something new and a sense of achievement. If I would have stayed in that comfort zone of SMM I wouldn’t have learned something new and could not had an opportunity to grow in my career. Now that I was uncomfortable with excel and accounts, I am trying to convert it into my comfort zone and add another achievement in my resume.

Example 2:

I am writing this post while I am in hospital looking after my grandmother. I need to stay awake the whole night. In the season of summer when the climate is so hot and a tough time in office, you are sure of being tired and need a nice good sleep. And when there is nice air conditioned room, how can one stay awake? Hence I sat on a chair, was not comfortable and wanted to stretch my legs and give them rest. So I pulled another chair kept my legs on it. Now I am comfortable. After a while, I felt so sleepy that it was difficult for me to keep my eyes open. Comfortably sitting on 2 chairs, with my legs stretched and chilled air. But I was on a night duty, had to stay awake. So I removed one chair and was sitting on single chair. Felt uncomfortable, there was no space to stretch my legs. Even though you feel sleepy you can’t sleep. Now that I was feeling uncomfortable, I was achieving my goal. Of staying awake.

Two different examples, one professional and one personal. But both the experiences teach you to be uncomfortable for achieving your goal. You be comfortable and your goal will be uncomfortably away. You be uncomfortable and achieve your goal comfortably.

Are you comfortable? Share your views on my findings. Am I comfortably right?

The True Legend Living – Radio

The first form of entertainment ever known is ‘Radio’. It’s truly a legend. Ask your grandparents, they have always enjoyed listening to radio and might also have some fond memories with few programs. May be it was the only source of entertainment for them. But even today, people love listening to radio and enjoy.

Radio has seen all types of competition, from monopoly, oligopoly and also pure competition. From the only source of entertainment to competition like L P records, radio cassettes, walkman, CD player, mp3, ipod, etc. Radio has survived all. Now a days even other utility products like mobile phones, mp4 player, etc have given importance to radio and manufacture the products with in-built radio. The invention of walkman had predicted the death of radio. But even with the changes in the technology, radio has proved to be a legend and has stayed alive.

Why radio has been able to face all the competition and stand tall as a winner? The main feature of a radio was to provide link for communication between the military and security personnel. But soon it became the form of entertainment. Music is main element for radio but not the only element for survival because competition like mp3 and ipod also provides the same element. Than what makes radio a winner. The unseen heroes. The content that attracts the audience. The content plays a very important role because they have to connect to the mass who cannot see you, who don’t know where you are and who they are listening to.

And the other important characters are the RJs. They give the personal touch to the conversation they have on the show. The conviction by which they connect to others is amazing. In today’s world people don’t listen to a stranger, but they make sure others listen to them. They also need to have various soft skills like voice modulation, solving the issues, etc. which their audience expect from them. It’s difficult to fulfill one person’s expectation but they are capable to fulfill thousands of people’s expectation. Isn’t that amazing! This has kept radio alive in today’s world. If you can connect to the audience then you can face any competition any changes that comes your way and you will walk as the winner. This applies in every aspect of life, be it entertainment or marketing or any other field. If you connect, you survive.

Now I would like to connect with you. Please provide insights in the comment box if I have  lost on any of the important aspects. Waiting to connect!
